The League of Women Voters (LWV) is a nonpartisan organization whose purpose is to promote the informed and active participation of citizens in government. This means the League does not support or oppose candidates for public office or political parties and acts only on issues chosen by the membership for study and action. The League believes that political parties are essential to the American system of government and participation of informed citizens is beneficial to the political parties and to the system.
Members study community issues in depth, take positions and then act based on knowledge gained in the comprehensive study.
A Board of Directors operates the Local League. An annual membership meeting is held every spring and numerous events are held throughout the year. We depend on volunteer assistance for all aspects of Local League work.
Our 2024-2025 officers are:
President: Nancy Halvorson
Vice-President: Ellie Hutton
Secretary: Cindy Maltsberger
Treasurer: Marlene Niemeier
The League of Women Voters of Clark County is one of 20 Local Leagues in Washington (lwvwa.org). On a national level (lwv.org), there are League members in all 50 states and over 700 communities. When you join the League you are a member at all three levels.
Joining the League of Women Voters is a great way to get involved in your community and play an active role in our democracy.
Our volunteers work year round to register new voters, host community forums and debates, and provide voters with election information they need. We engage at the local, state and national levels on legislative priorities and efforts to improve our elections.
Discrimination or harassment of any kind will not be accepted within the League, including but not limited to race, socio-economic status, age, ability status, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, gender identity, or marital status. The League is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging for all people. The League is an organization that respects and values the richness of our community and our members. The collective sum of our individual differences and life experiences represents not only our culture, but our reputation and the organization's mission and achievements as well.
